Reach Oxford Scholarship

Students should note they must apply for admission to the University before they can be considered for a Reach Oxford Scholarship. Applications for 2011 entry have now closed and the University is unable to accept any scholarship applications from students who have not been offered a place at Oxford. A number of Oxford colleges offer Reach Oxford scholarships (formerly Oxford Student Scholarships) to students from developing countries who, for political or financial reasons, or because suitable educational facilities do not exist, cannot study for a degree in their own countries.

Scholars will be expected to write an annual report about their academic and social activities, and achievements at the University.

Receipt of the award in subsequent years is subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Applicants should be aware that competition for the scheme is very high and the University does not have additional funding for those candidates who are not offered a scholarship.
INSEAD Syngenta Endowed Scholarship(s) for Emerging Country Leadership
Description:

Two scholarships will be awarded per class and candidates for this scholarship will need to demonstrate: (a) outstanding academic achievement and promise (b) aptitude for business and financial management (c) leadership potential and (d) a commitment to contributing to their country or region at some point in the future.
Eligibility:
Candidates must be a national of an emerging economy and have spent a substantial part of their lives in the developing world, in education and/or professional experience. Experience in industry will be considered a plus. Preference will be given to candidates who require proven financial assistance.
Essay topic :
1).Briefly discuss the requirements for successful business leadership in your country today. Describe how you envisage contributing to the future development of your country after graduation and why you should be considered for this award. (200 words)
2).Briefly discuss measures required for sustainable agriculture in your country/region in the context of urban and rural development. Focus on what you consider to be the most important element (450 words)
3).Provide a concise but accurate description of your financial circumstances as well as a cash flow forecast for the year at INSEAD (details of income set against expenditures).

AGRA is pleased to announce the launch of the first round of its fellowship programme under the Soil Health Training sub Program. The Programme aspires to harness the talent and leadership potential of young and professionals who will transform agriculture in Africa. Women are particularly encouraged to apply.

The objective of the fellowship programme is to contribute to building capacity for Agricultural development through supporting the training of about 100 MSc and 50 PhD students in integrated soil fertility management (ISFM) in nine universities in sub-Saharan Africa. Students will be drawn from 13 AGRA-focal countries in the phase of the program: Tanzania, Mozambique, Ghana, Mali, Malawi, Rwanda, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso and Niger.

The universities that will offer PhD training are:
    • Sokoine University of Agriculture, Morogoro, Tanzania – will take students from the eight East and Southern Africa region
    • Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana – will offer PhD training to students from five countries in the West Africa region

The universities that will offer MSc training are:
    • Makerere University (Uganda)
    • Kenyatta University (Kenya)
    • Haramaya University (Ethiopia)
    • Bunda College of Agriculture (Malawi)
    • University of Zambia (Zambia)
    • University of Nairobi (Kenya)
    • Bobo-Dioulasso University (Burkina Faso)

The training programs also include strengthening the facilities at the universities (laboratories and teaching facilities including curriculum) so that they can offer the best training possible in Africa in soil health and produce a new generation of 21st century soil scientists and agronomists.

University of Ilorin: Scholarship Opportunities for International Students

Brief Description:
University of Ilorin, Ilorin, offers scholarship opportunities for International Students in any field of their interest. The offer is opened to both undergraduate and graduate up to Master level.
Target Group:
International Students within and outside Africa.
Scholarship Value:
   1. Tuition fees will be covered;
   2. Subsistence allowance;
   3. Miscellaneous allowance;
   4. Free accommodation;
   5. Transportation allowance to and from Ilorin (once per session);
   6. Complimentary access to the facilities of the University Health Services.
Eligibility
   1. Undergraduate:
      Applicant must meet the admission requirements of the University i.e. 5 credits ‘O’ level or its equivalent for candidate seeking admission to the first year of the first degree programmes and two ‘A’ level plus 3 ‘O’ level credits (or its equivalent) for candidates seeking admission into the second year of the programme.
   2. Graduate:
      Applicants must meet admission requirements of Master programme of the University i.e. Second Class Honours, (Upper Division) or the equivalent in the bachelor degree.

   1. Evidence of medical fitness and
   2. Submit evidence of proficiency in English Language.

2011 Second Round

Applications for the second round of the 2011 Endeavour Executive Awards are now open and will close 31 January 2011. Endeavour Executive Awards are available for international and Australian applicants.  No other Awards will be available at this time.  All Awards will again be offered for 2012 and applications will open in April 2011.
