How ‘Mr Limpopo’ KCEE got his groove back
It's all smiles for the Pop singer who is finally enjoying superstardom and wealth all off one monster hit song titled 'Limpopo'.
How it started for KCEE
Kingsley Okonkwo started like every other upcoming act in Nigeria – the hard way. In the early 2000s, he met with former partner Presh (Precious John) in a church choir. They met up with a third member, named the group KC Presh and released their first single 'Ose baba', shot a video for it, receiving mild success.
Partying ways with the third member in 2002, the duo entered the first ever edition of Nigerian Breweries STAR QUEST talent show and won beating the likes of Asa, Psquare, Klint da Drunk, Mr Raw (formerly known as Nigga Raw). As part of the spoils, KC Presh signed a deal with Kennis Music (the biggest record label in Nigeria at the time) and made a big debut.
During their time at Kennis, KC Presh never attained super status, it always seemed like they were one hit away. They soon parted ways with the label and set up shop on their own with KP Records. Their first instalment was the OJB assisted 'Segemenge' off the album 'Sio Nkpo' which bagged them a Channel O nomination and more fame. But while the likes of D'banj and the Mo'Hits were flying high with chart topping singles and back-to-back hits, KC Presh struggled with their careers. They tried once again with KCEE's wealthy brother intervening – they restructured, re-launched the label as 'Blingz Record', affiliated with Grafton Records in the South and released a new album 'No Time' with the lead single 'Shokori bobo'. All this however did not result in mega success, infact the duo's careers' imploded.
How KCEE got his groove back
After several attempts to stage a comeback, the duo eventually split on good terms (friends told Nigerian Entertainment Today KCEE and Presh continued to stay in the same house for months). That separation seemed to be the break for KCEE who immediately put in work releasing his debut single 'Now I know'. He took it from there with bigger hits 'Okpekete' (with Davido), 'Give it to me' (feat Flavour) all under his new label Five Star Music. The signs were there but it was the huge hit 'Limpopo' that shattered all barriers and planted him as a bona fide hit-maker and music star.
Written by R&B singer Harrysong and produced by Del B, the song has turned a once undesired KCEE into a fans' favourite, darling of promoters. That single hit has ushered him into the A list, with an MTN endorsement deal as icing.
The story hear is not KCEE's new cars (thanks to his bigger brother, he's always lived a very posh lifestyle) but his struggle and eventual breakthough.

Derenle speaks on Gay Rumors & his ideal woman
I think people believe what they want to believe.
But a lot of people believe you are. And to prove them right, a picture of you Charley Boy went viral on the internet recently…
I don't read the news, I make the news. The thing is people tend to look for loopholes when they see you doing well. And since people feel I'm feminine in nature, then they think I'm gay. But the truth is I don't really care about what people say because I'm not fashioned according to what the society expects. And also I think for my personality, if I were gay, the news would have grown from speculations and would have been in people's face.
On the part of Charley Boy and me, I was not expecting the paparazzi that came with the picture.
So what was the picture about then?
I really don't want to go into details, but it could have been a controversial agenda, it could have a been a publicity stunt, it could have been the real deal and it could have been photoshopped, but whatever it was, people should just go ahead and make their conclusions.
So why is Denrele still single?
I'm a hustler and I'm still trying to get myself together. When the time comes, I'll get married definitely, but there's no one in the picture now. I'm searching and ready to mingle.
Who is your ideal woman?
I like someone who would not try to change me and who would understand the complexity that I am. I want someone simple and absolutely free and not intimidated by what I represent.
If you ask me to believe what I want to believe? I believe you're Gay... Lol
ASUU rejects New deal with FG and vows to continue the strike
The Ibadan Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. will not call off its strike until the Federal Government meets the union's demands, according to the Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Adesola Nassir. This follows ASUU's resolve on Tuesday, after a meeting with federal lawmakers and ministers, to continue with the strike.
Mr. Nassir stated the union's stance at a news conference at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Wednesday.
The union embarked on a nationwide indefinite strike on July 1 over claims that the Federal Government had failed to implement parts of the agreement they signed in 2009.
"We as members of the ASUU Ibadan Zone, comprising University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Lagos State University, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and Tai Solarin University of Education, have resolved to remain on strike.
"This we are doing along with our other colleagues nationwide, for as long as it takes the government to be faithful to the implementation of the agreement and commence the process of renegotiating the 2009 agreement.
"This is not meant to inflict undue pains on our students, which also includes our members, wives and children, parents and other primary interests,'' he said.
He described their action as a collective sacrifice toward ensuring that they bequeathed "a better university system to posterity''.
Mr. Nassir said that since ASUU accepted the challenge of repositioning the country's universities more than two decades ago, more than 3,000 academics had been trained outside the country. He said this was achieved through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), the product of an agreement spawned by their struggles.
He hoped that the current struggle, which he said might drag on for a while, would yield positive dividends.
"We cannot continue to relegate the education of our children by devoting a paltry 8.5 per cent of our budget even when most African countries spend about 20 per cent on the average.
"We therefore call on parents, students, progressive organisations and all other stakeholders to join our union in the struggle to free our universities and society from the claws of mis-governance, neglect and outright repression,'' he said.
He said that the government must invest heavily in education if it truly desired a country that would be respected among the comity of nations.
Another lecturer, Oluwakemi Fapojuwo, of the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, said that ASUU was not attacking personalities but was only interested in ensuring that issues were tackled in the appropriate manner in order to make the system competitive.
Mrs. Fapojuwo said that as parents, they were also interested in the future of their children, whom she described as products of the universities.
"What we are saying is that government must show enough commitment about this our system to a substantial level so as to turn around the universities,'' she said.
